Borage Growing Advice
Sowing Indoors
- Can be sown throughout the year and enjoyed on windowsills. Early sowings can also be started in pots or trays undercover in early spring. Sow seeds thinly around 6mm deep, covered lightly with growing medium. They can be potted into larger containers when they are large enough to easily handle. Your borage plants can be grown outdoors after hardening off, later in the spring.
Sowing Outdoors
- Borage can be sown directly outdoors or undercover from mid-late Spring onwards into well-drained soil in a sunny location. Sow the seeds thinly in their final position, covering lightly with growing medium, around 6mm deep. Eventually thin plants to around 30cm spacing.
Ongoing care and harvest
- The leaves of borage are incredibly tasty but also be aware just how attractive the flowers are to local wildlife.
- Deadhead Borage flowers as they are spent to encourage further planting
